War on Fat (cont.)
streets, but a quiet, more peaceful movement. In the end, if we should lose this fight, the victims are you and your children. The price is an early death, heart disease, diabetes, depression and the unhappy feeling and lifestyle when you are overweight or obese.
The win is a longer life, more activity and strength, less disease, and the joy of being thin and healthy. After all “Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.”
Unfortunately, we all have to be dedicated soldiers in this war. The following strategy will become our only weapons to fight:
- Stop buying poor quality food containing high fat and high sugar. Read the labels. If you stop buying them, companies will not make them.
- Eat less and eat more often.
- Increase the amount of green, leafy vegetables eaten daily.
- Stay away from shelf-stable, preservative filled foods (foods other diet programs provide that do not need to be refrigerated). Preferably,

Finally, be an example to your kids: Lose weight and eat right.
move towards eating natural and organic foods.
- Exercise on a regular basis – unless you are actively dieting.
- If you have a medical issue, see your doctor and deal with it.
- Finally, be an example to your kids: Lose weight and eat right.
Working in an emergency room, I have seen people who were overweight at 12 years old, come in at the age of 30 with heart attacks. I have seen miserable and depressed 16-year-olds, overweight

teens without motivation to live a full life.
We are definitely losing this war now. Let’s work together, rally the troops and take action against the enemy for ourselves and generations to come. If not, there will be much more suffering and death than many of the wars we have fought in the past.
Join the fight now! If you need to lose weight, get started. If you are at a healthy weight, help someone who needs to lose. If you work for a food company, see what improvements you can make. If you are in government, do your part and keep to your promises. If you are in the entertainment business, lead by example. If you are a health care provider, join the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (http://www.asbp.org/).
Together and with hard work we can win. Never surrender.

Thin women (cont.)
Unfortunately, there are a lot of negative stereotypes about overweight people (i.e.: They are lazy, sloppy, etc.) that are simply not true according to the Council on Size and Weight Discrimination. Many plus-size women who have positive phone interviews, find the job has been “filled” when they show up for in person interview.
We should all be aware of this type of discrimination and make sure that we are not victims nor contribute to it. People should lose weight for health and personal reasons, not to qualify for a better paying job. Unfortunately many of these plus-size women are not plus-size because they want to be, but because they have a metabolic issue.
|
They can’t change this medical problem any more than they can change when they will get their period |
“They can’t change this medical problem any more than they can change when they will get their period”, says Dr. Sass who treats these metabolic issues on a regular basis.
These people can, with the proper therapy, lose the weight, but to discriminate against these people who already have a major issue is just plain wrong. Shame on anyone who discriminates. |

I heard that women with big hips are healthier. Is that true?
At the Institute of Preventative Medicine in Copenhagen,
|
researchers found those with wider hips also appeared to be protected against heart conditions.
Women with a hip measurement smaller than 40”, or a size 14 would not have this protection they said. The researchers say hip fat contains a beneficial natural anti-inflammatory.
This is where the apple and pear shapes come into play. If you are shaped like an apple, meaning your weight is around your waist, you are at higher risk for heart disease. If your weight is around your hips, you are actually better off than thinner
|
women. This hip fat is also very resistant to weight loss. I always recommend to women who have fat around their hips, to start appreciating the fact that they may live longer because of them. Plus, many people like the shape of these curves.

HeroFiber™ is really good for you
HeroFiber™, an amazing fiber, is added to many of our products including muffins, bagels and cookies.
Here’s what you should know about it:
HeroFiber™ is a formulation of a few naturally modified fibers, including ForteFiber, that has been shown to help with many aspects of health.

A Matter of Time
How much time have you spent eating in your lifetime? How much of that time was spent on unhealthy foods that left you feeling lethargic, disgusted and physically ill? Those times you snuck the food while no one was watching. The times you sped through the fast food pick up window.
The times you overate at family gatherings and holidays not even realizing how much or what you were eating.
How long have you been eating Smart for Life cookies and working hard to get the weight off? How often have you been tempted by that French fry or scoop of ice cream? When do the urges hit you, if at all? It’s a much simpler solution to grab a cookie, shake or muffin now than that high sugar, fat, sodium comfort food you relied on for years.
Now is the time to focus on becoming healthy and take the time for you. You have taken the steps to follow the Smart for Life Cookie Diet program and when you do
|
that, you will succeed. The weight will come off and you will remain motivated to reach your goal. The cravings will be forgotten. And time will not be wasted on poor food choices and forgotten events.
Instead, more time will become available.
Time spent wasted on planning and eating meals during the day can be spent on enjoying friends and family – even holding more productive business lunches. Time spent wasted worrying what to wear will eventually be replaced with time spent finding new wardrobe options and attending events to show them off. Time spent wasted on feeling sick and tired will be replaced with time spent feeling energized, motivated, and ready for action.
Now you can realize that time really is on your side and start using it positively. Don’t waste a precious minute and live every moment to its fullest. Visualize yourself reaching your goals, living a fuller, healthier life, and being Smart in every way.
